Naomi and Ely’s No kiss list – Rachel Cohn and David Levithan.
This is the second Cohn/ Levithan book I’ve read, the first being Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, which I adored so much I went as far as to say that it was THE one and that if it were ever possible to marry a book then it would be that one. Then I read this. If Nick and Norah is my wedded partner for better and for worse, then Naomi and Ely is that friend that there is always that little something extra with. The one who means too much and not enough and no matter how committed you may be to your spouse there is always the guilt and the confusion and the angst of the love you feel for the friend. Suffice to say I adored this too and Rachel Cohn and David Levithan are quickly catapulting themselves to the top of my favourite writers list.
I love it when I read a book and it just gets me. It understands me completely, Naomi and Ely does just that and I adore it for that.
Anyway, the story is about bffs Naomi and Ely, she is in love with him but as much as he loves her it’ll never be enough, because she is a girl and he isn’t straight. To try and protect their friendship they have a no kiss list, Gabriel the doorman is on the list, they are not on the list themselves are not. And neither is Naomi’s boyfriend. That doesn’t mean she is ok with Ely kissing him though. What follows is angst. Lots and lots of angst. And its wonderful.
