leah's stupid life, reviews

On The Mortal Instruments.

The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare has been given the green light for a film, it now has an entire cast and I realised that I completely missed blogging about any of them because this has been rather neglected by my good self recently. In fairness, when you’re writing a novel, it’s hard to find the time to read anyone elses’s, however! I am going to freak out and flail over the Mortal Instruments series.

So, for those that don’t know, The Mortal Instruments is a series of six books (the last of which is to be published next year) it also has a prequel series which will be three books long (at the moment is two) and will also have a sequel series (as of yet there is none).
It follows the adventures of Clary Fray, who discovers that she isn’t as human as she thinks and is actually descended from a long line of demon killers known as Shadow Hunters (or the nephilim). In the first book her mum gets kidnapped by an evil shadow hunter and she along with her new found shadow hunter friends (Jace, Izzy and Alec), her sort of step dad that turns out to be a werewolf (Luke), the high warlock of Brooklyn (Magnus) and her bezzie mate (Simon) get dragged into a world that none of them are really familiar with. It’s kind of hard to review the whole series without giving anything from the individual books away, but let me just say this, there is plenty wrong with the series as a whole, but at the same time they are ridiculously addictive, and frustrating. Each book ends with a cliffhanger of sorts which leaves you tearing your hair out waiting for the next installment.

My favourite character of the entire series is Simon, he starts out being Clary’s best friend and then ends up being turned into a vampire, but he’s the best damned vampire you’ll ever come across. Robert Sheehan, who I love has been cast to play him in the film and I came across these amazing fan posters and had to share!
